Cryotherapy benefits many athletes. This month’s featured athlete is Brad Johnston, an assistant coach and competitor who has been training at Art of Jiu-Jitsu in Costa Mesa since October 2013. He recently captured a hard-fought gold medal at the IBJJF 2017 European Championships. He is also a 2015 European and World No-Gi champion as a blue belt, and was promoted to purple belt on November 21, 2016.

Brad won four matches to become European purple belt champion in his first major tournament since getting promoted. Interesting fact: he was coached from mat side by six-time World champion Rafael Mendes.

Brad is an advocate of Whole Body Cryotherapy at OC Cryosport. He does several 3-minute sessions every month. Whole Body Cryotherapy has helped him with recovery and pain relief from intensive training in preparation for his competitions. We asked him a few questions about his experience and how he has reaped cryotherapy benefits.

How has your recovery routine changed since you started at OC Cryosport?
Ever since I started doing cryotherapy sessions at OC Cryosport I noticed on days my body feels run down and sore, after a quick 3 minute cryo session my body will immediately feel “fresh” again. I normally try to do my weekly session on Wednesday’s so I can reset my body and go hard feeling fully recovered for the rest of the week.

What drives you to keep coming back?
At OC Cryosport everyone is always positive and really helpful, it’s always a good time chatting with everyone while doing a cryotherapy session. Overall great vibes! I’m always excited to come back!

What advice can you give to others, especially athletes who are considering trying out cryotherapy?
My advice would be to definitely give it a try! Cryotherapy has helped me a lot dealing with muscle soreness, recovery from injuries and just overall feeling good. I encourage all serious athlete’s to make cryotherapy a part of there routine.
